We discuss the events in Israel and Gaza. The actions of Hamas have shocked everyone, and Israel's vow to avenge them is also shocking, because it is likely to prolong the struggle. Netanyahu's goal to remain in power will cause problems for both sides. The risk of genocide is high.
In the US, the Republicans cannot effectively respond because they are still struggling with electing a Speaker for the House. They are even divided on how to frame a reaction. DeSantis is proposing charter flights to Israel to 'rescue' people who are trapped there. It is not clear how this would take place. Trump has turned on Netanyahu, and is now castigating him. Trump's latest statements are unhinged, and do not add anything to the conversation about this. If he were president now, what would happen? RFK Jr. and Cornel West continue their quest for the presidency, though their election chances are poor. We see a lot of ego at work.
