His DJ career has taken off in both Europe and North America and the Def Mix 20th Anniversary Tour with David Morales, Frankie Knuckles and Satoshi Tomiie has allowed the rest of the world to enjoy Hector’s more than eclectic sound. He also compiled and mixed the soon to be released Def Mix Anniversary 3-CD set on Defected Records.
At fifteen, then known as “DJ Baby Hec”, the Bronx native landed his first DJ’ing job at La Mirage, which at the time was one of the hottest dance clubs in the Bronx. Hector was soon DJ’ing at downtown Manhattan clubs such as “Save the Robots”, “Palladium” and “Roxy,” as well as at “The Red Zone” where he opened for David Morales. Hector is now entering his 24th year of Dj’ing…no longer a “Baby”.
Hector’s music industry experience is not limited to DJ’ing. He first studied the business working with Emotive Records and soon after was hired by Def Mix to run the day-to-day operations of DMI Records. Currently as Label Manager and Partner with Satoshi Tomiie, Hector is the driving force behind Saw Recordings. Having great success with Chab, Bush II Bush, Audiofly, etc., Hector has earned the respect of DJ’s and record labels worldwide. “Since I don’t remix or produce, being a “record man” Monday through Friday is my love and passion” says Hector. “The rest of my time when not DJ’ing is spent with my wife and daughter, family is very important to me” he adds.
Hector’s growing list of credits includes the “Pacha Winter Sessions” released in 2006 and future compilations from Saw. Hector enjoys a summer residency at Pacha, Ibiza along with the rest of the Def Mix clan and looks forward to returning this summer. He works hard at his craft making sure that the clubbers have a good time. What sets Romero apart from the rest is his ability to reach the masses through his music and personality. It makes him a favorite with promoters and clubbers alike.
